LOL! Now it doesn't matter what speed I try they all fail. I am having issues also with recognizing external portable drives via the rear or front USB slots. It could also be that the discs are just crappy?...

I've checked the firmware of the drive and it says it's on the latest... but when I wipe the disc these scratches go away and the disc is as good as new, and when i reinsert the disc to write to it, the disc comes It doesn't matter what DVD discs I try, newly burned or old ones, video or data, different brand or pressed commercial DVD discs. When this first started I thought I had some dodgy discs,but I reckon there's been 20 or so failures and not one success.
Is it just the downloaded avi files which wont burn or is it everything now (as you were able to burn videos to DvD at least at one time)? Perhaps the drive is not capable of burning to dual layer discs, not all DVD burners are. If it is just the avi files, then I would suspect DRM. edit: Sorry excuse my lack of experience with these. Got an old Sony DRU-500A (2.1A) as Sec Slave Ultra DMA 2 and when loading the same discs Nero CD-DVD works just fine. this content No more errors! The simulation went through ok but the burn failed 50% of the way through. We went back and forth many times and they finally said the drive was defective.
