The solution is to find another firmware that covers your brand of discs or to change to another brand of discs that are already covered in your firmware. For example: TDK, Verbatim, Imation, Yamaha, HP, etc. These devices have so many MTB hours of usage before they fail. 16x has been replaced by 18x and the new 20x multi-format burners. I see indications that a program to strip the protection was applied but can't say for sure.

This error is generally not related to disc quality issues, but is simply a result of the drive not having the latest firmware in it that lists the particular disc brand. Use the Nero Clean tool to uninstall the software from your system: http://www.nero.com/eng/Clean_Tools.html Then install Nero latest version.
