down on downing street

Perhaps the biggest coverup of the last few years, the downing street memo seems to be revealing for all to see that the whole premise for invading Iraq was falsified.

As I recall the news media was covering the ramp up to war, and the public wasn’t buying it. It was a very unpopular move, and after many months of failing to build up support, the WMD argument seemed to materialize out of thin air. With no substantial evidence to prove or deny this, it seemed obvious nontheless that it had been fabricated. Otherwise why not mention it at the outset, as obviously it was convincing enough to everyone. The downing street memo reveals all the details.

indexified financial wisdom

Here’s an interesting question. Do fund managers exhibit skill? This article makes the analogy with baseball. Good batters show above average skill, and there is consistency and time that come into play. That is over time they are PREDICTABLY better. This is skill. Measurable, definable skill. Fund managers don’t outperform the market for more than a couple of years on average. Are you going to find the right one for the right years? 90% says S&P 500 will beat you…

I mean for proof, Katie Holmes was missing for 16 days after which she fire her manager and disowned most of her friends. Sounds like a Jim Jones story. You all probably know, but to recap, L Ron started the church, but back in the day it’s roots were with EST or Erhard Seminars Training. *THAT* organization, my friends had close ties with Crowley, and I guess Occult Magick. EST really went on to become The Forum another ghoulish cult in the early eighties, and survives to this day owned by Landmark Education

I was rooked into taking one of these classes by a friend a decade ago, and I can tell you this shit is capital-S SCARY.

why the alps are melting…

We know the Alps are melting, but why? Global warming? Perhaps that’s the obvious answer, but another interesting theory argues that they may have been green in the Roman times, and perhaps 7000 years ago completely free of snow and ice.

summer concerts in NYC

A long list like this is what can cause otherwise friendly well-adjusted New Yorkers to think they live at the center of the universe… That’s a list of 22 concerts and many of them are SERIES, not just one night. And they don’t even list PS1!

Thanks Charelle.

the coolest waste of time!

There’s this awesome game I just found. Maybe some of you have seen it already. It’s called Guess the Google. Think of it as guess the image search. The program does a random image search for a keyword, then displays a montage of 20 images. You have to guess the word, and get a score. I got a 107.

Thanks Tom.

german blinkenlights hack

Take an abandoned building with lots of windows, at an important and heavily trafficed area of the city, place eight rows of 18 floodlights behind the windows, and connect them all the a computer. You’ve got a huge outdoor video billboard called blinkenlights. But that’s not enough. You also want to connect it to an SMS system, so people can call in live, and play PONG!.

That’s exactly what the Chaos Computer Club was doing in September of 2001.

Talk about drugs, and the drug war. Fatness, and smoking speed up aging. I’ve seen this before my very eyes with smoking. Within 5-10 years I’ve noticed friends who look dramatically older because of smoking. It’s as though these drugs borrow our own future time…

gold standard, populism + wizard of oz

Here’s an interesting story related to the gold standard. According to this theory, the story of the wizard of oz is really a parable. Here’s
another reference.

The story goes like this, the main theme is midwest farmers opposition to the gold standard. Dorothy is a farm girl from kansas, representing an ordinary rural citizen, the tin man is a city worker, the cowardly Lion is William Jennings Bryant, the then president of the US, the scarecrow is the US farmer. They travel east on a yellow brick road (paved in gold as it were). The farmers were then indebted to Eastern lenders to buy new farm equipment which improved production, but also drove down prices of output. The wizard of oz represented the evil Eastern bankers, who pull strings behind a curtain to control the economy. Oz, their destination, being the abbreviation for an ounce of gold!
