no conspiracy - European monitoring of US elections

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:44 am

So for those (were there any of you) who thought it only a conspiracy that the US elections were a sham last time around, take a listen… The European OSCE, which monitors elections in third world, and ‘transition’ countries, where democracy is not a given, will be monitoring the US 2004 elections! They must be thinking, what the heck is going on over there? I don’t have an answer for them…

build a lap steel guitar

Sooo cool, check this out. Also some other interesting instruments here.

I call this lap steel guitar simple because it is basically just a plank with strings attached. However, that doesn’t mean that the instrument lacks anything a lap steel guitar needs, and it can be played just as well as any other lap steel instrument.

whack postal hack

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:52 pm

This is so crazy, and somehow so subversive cool, I can’t pass it up. A guy is printing postal labels to look just like real USPS labels except one little detail. They say ‘USPS does not acknowledge the authority of the Bush administration.’ in small very subconscious print. Wow!

curious kryptonite

This is incredible. You know that kryptonite lock you use to lock your bike? It can be opened with a bic pen. Don’t believe me, read here. There are two movies at the bottom. I was so dumbfounded by this I tried it. Took a little effort jamming the bic pen in there, but the damn thing opened after a few twists!

curious approval ratings

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:41 pm

As many of you know, I tend to avoid declaring a bias, and instead just post things I find ‘curious’. So in that vein, here’s an interesting chart which relates approval ratings of the president, and terror alerts. Interesting indeed. The raw data is not as flatering as the TV news…

the acid is missing - Chinese innovation

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:28 pm

According to this Express India and this NYT article, China is becoming the next hotbed of innovation. Investment money, and exciting growth aside, wasn’t much of the Silicon Valley creativity the genesis of a lot of 60’s drug culture? So argues Douglas Rushkoff in Cyberia.

truely underground cinema

Aparently a band of weirdos have been hanging out in caves under paris, complete with their very own cinema. Yep, since Roman times, a maze of tunels have existed, and during past wars, cemetaries of bodies have been moved there. The caves remain, though they are offlimits to the public. At least the law-abiding public!
