AEON FLUX - she’s waiting

Posted by admin on Feb 28 2004 | Uncategorized

Looks like there are plans to remake Peter Chung’s AEON FLUX. I haven’t seen Monster yet, but if she’s as talented as they say, it may turn out as good as Matrix first round…

ORSINAL - art of Ferry Halim

Gorgeous site, both from the main preview page, and each of the very cool FLASH games. They’re more like works of great artistic creation in their own right.

delectable IRC imagery

Posted by admin on Feb 27 2004 | Uncategorized

IRC back in the day was text only, but as many of you know, that’s not true today. Like AOL IM, and other messangers, your chat sessions can include a lot more. This site really illustrates the colorful strangeness of the internet. Updated automatically, and all the time, you’ll go back tomorrow, and find different content. Very voyeuristic, and surreal.

RIAA + racketeering

Posted by admin on Feb 26 2004 | Uncategorized

I like to see debates turn on their end. So to watch the RIAA strong arm with huge lawsuits all those evil fileswappers, it’s a good sign to see a lawsuit like this.

brain fingerprinting - Philip Dick’s future is here

Posted by admin on Feb 26 2004 | Uncategorized

Another shocking bit of news. New technology is being contested, but also developed and promoted which is scary enough. This technology called brain fingerprinting monitors brain activity for recognition of an image or scene from pictures shown to a defendent.

ATM scams, up close and personal

Posted by admin on Feb 26 2004 | Uncategorized

Wow, I had heard about the various ATM scams but these close up pictures really bring the idea home. Be careful with your card, as the banks may not be watching as closely as we might hope.

New York subways are hard to keep track of. But with NYPIRG’s site Straphangers you can find last minute change info, and promote MTA accountability through petitions, and letters.

wiretaps running wild

Posted by admin on Feb 26 2004 | Uncategorized

Many of you have heard this news. I’m not going to toe the line and argue what you’ve already considered, or heard argued, that we’re eroding away privacy, though this certainly is, because I think everyone else covers all that well. What I will say is that “drowning in information” is exactly the situation we were in before 9/11. Too much intelligence, as in the gathered kind, can be a bad thing, as any database administrator knows…

The earth just burped, no really…

What I mean is this. Lately in the news there’s all this rhetoric
about global climate change, and how we have to turn around now,
or we’re all dead. Huh? Who’s at the controls?

America Standz 4

Posted by admin on Feb 22 2004 | Uncategorized

In today’s world it no wonder why children care more about being famous and making money then getting their education. It makes me laugh when I hear that a movie star won’t do a film because 1 million is too little. It makes me think how American culture, and others view on celebreties salaries. The 3 most important jobs in the world don’t come close to making that amount. A doctor , a fire fighter and a teacher are the most important roles and yet celebrities complain they have no privacy, well when you put a price on a job anyone can take up, well they shouldn’t complain.

penguins - those open minded flightless birds

Posted by admin on Feb 19 2004 | Uncategorized

Apparently Penguins can not only be gay, which raises plenty of feathers these days with all the debate over gay marriage. But they also have prostitution. No, not with cash, mastercard, or check, but by trading for nest-building rocks.

human languages dwindling

An amazing half of all human languages face extinction this century. Interestingly enough, computer scientists are finding a link between this, and the way programming languages work.

hurray for Hiibel

Posted by admin on Feb 17 2004 | Uncategorized

Ever wonder if we’re becoming the kind of place where citizens are required to show your papers when asked? So did Dudley Hiibel, a 59 year old cowboy, when he was asked to show his paper after committing no crime. He was arrested, and has appealed, and is in the process of taking it all the way to the Supreme Court. Good thing we have people like Hiibel in this world, who stand up for our rights…
