Ok, just a little background first. This is futures as in financial futures not *THE* future.
For any remaining conspiracy skeptics out there, this story should allay any doubts that just about *ANYTHING* is possible in this crazy world.
This seemingly serious article talks of a 7 year old boy’s addiction to porn. Time for the old therapist.
If a whale’s proboscus is worksafe, then feel free to visit this link. They say:
o a blue whale produces 400 gallons of sperm every go
o only 10% gets where it’s going
o that means 360 gallons end up in the ocean each time
o you might wonder why the ocean is so salty!
[Thanks could only go to Geisha Asobi for such wisdom]
I was reading “The great Manhattan rip-off” in the Economist (June 7, 2003 - p25). I had cutout the article meaning to write a piece on it for some time, and just now got back to it.
I’m not sure if this WMD conspiracy is turning into a bad soap opera, or a sad tragic shakespearian story. British leading authority on WMD David Kelly has committed suicide, and now it seems Rice may take the fall on this side of the Atlantic.
Some folks are now theorizing that Stonehenge was a great vagina monolith through which the bounties of the earth originated. Not a bad theory if you ask me. However, I did visit it once, and despite what the article claims, their are burial mounds all over the place around it.
Arthur C Clark’s is famous for “2001: A Space Odyssey” where quantum jumps in human intelligence occur subsequent to encounters with a great black monolith. He’s also famous for the quote “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”, also know as his Third Law.
More news of art/flash mobs from slashdot including one event in Austria and others happening as we speak.
Thanks to this anonymous CL post everything about dating women in NYC can be understood.
This Metrosexual business is getting out of control. Apparently the term has a bit of a history.
Bizarre site by Franke Stine (rhymes with Sade) illustrates the madness of plastic surgery. This isn’t just an Asian thing, take Michael Jackson as another great example.
Wolfe, author of Forbes Nanotech Report starts his own blog. Good stuff for the technology watchers…

The folks over at Wired NY ask you to Guess the location given various photos of New York places. Cool.

A lot of folks have read George Orwell’s 1984. Equally as many film afficianados critically acclaim Terry Gilliam’s Brazil. It’s all about privacy, and beaurocratic madness which envelopes society in a city of the future.
Those damn liberals never let up. Always paranoid about a new totalitarian Brazil enveloping their world. Sheldon S. Wolin, emeritus Profressor of Politics at Princeton University thinks a kind of fascism is replacing our democracy.
[Thanks Johan]
Metrosexual apparently doesn’t satisfy everyone. Gawker reports this guy wants to put Neverosexual to use for someone who just doesn’t get laid.
Here’s a conspiracy for all you nuts. The Mother of all Bombs or Massive Ordinance Air Burst are two meanings for the acronym MOAB which the military is calling one of it’s new weapons. Some people are not happy as it refers to a bible verse.
[2600 - V20 Issue 1]
Apocalypstick is the title of the next trade paperback in the series, and covers issues 9 through 16. Character personalities really start to take on a life of their own, and of course our band of misfits gets into and out of more trouble.
I’m not sure if I think this is rediculous, or incredibly cool. In the United Arab Emirates a giant palm shaped resort is being built.

Some new thoughts on the WMD debacle. Here are some previous thoughts.
I’ve posted a lot on NDS about learning Japanese because I’ve been spending a lot of time on it. I just picked up a copy of this book Breaking Into Japanese Literature by Gilles Murray.
Learn about Japan’s history from early times and before Edo to Meiji, WWII, and post-war modern times.
Blogging is getting more sophisticated everyday. Take moblog-ing for example. That’s short for mobile blogging, editing while on the go via wireless pda, cellphone, or wherever.
The Abilene Paradox describes a scenario in which individuals agree to doing something they perceive to be for the good of others, and meanwhile no one ends up happy.
This Thursday July 24th, a friend of mine is showing some of her work, and I think a lot of NDS readers might enjoy this.
Check out some highly Asian trends in fashion. Also some real street shots, and more.

I’ve been learning Japanese for about a year and a half, so I found this page on sounding like a Samurai pretty interesting.
